Tonight’s Impact Wrestling had a surprise in store for Johnny Gargano fans, as the former WWE NXT star appeared during a video package honoring Alex Shelley. Several stars have revealed how much Shelley influenced their careers and what he meant in the industry, and Gargano echoed similar sentiments. It was surprising seeing Gargano during an episode of Impact, even on video only, because he hasn’t actually revealed where he intends to go when he returns to wrestling. Impact is one of the many destinations mentioned for Gargano’s potential appearance, but while we wait for that to happen, you can check out his message to Shelley in the video below.
In the video, Gargano said, “In my opinion, Alex Shelley is one of the most underrated and influential wrestlers of this generation. There are a lot of guys on TV right now who wouldn’t be where they are without Alex Shelley’s influence.”

During a previous interview with ComicBook Nation, Gargano revealed that he had a date in mind for a return to wrestling, but it hadn’t been set, and most of his energy was focused on being a new dad.
“I do, I do, but I always leave the warning that I will reconsider it when the little rascal is here in three weeks because that might change everything,” Gargano said. “It’s like I could be like ‘Oh, I’m going back in April, but then it gets here and then I don’t know, maybe I’ll wait another two months.’ Like it’s one of those things where I leave it open. I have a time frame in my head when I want to go back.” When I feel like I should go back, but among those things…we’ll just see how it goes.”
Fans are excited to see Gargano return to the ring, whether it’s Impact, AEW, or even WWE. Some even think he could make an appearance in WWE sooner rather than later thanks to Triple H who is now in charge of WWE Creative, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
